Agentic Operations
Your people are using AI. Your company isn't.
Agentic Operations is about co-designing how your company runs, so AI and people work together, with the controls you need to stay accountable.
More than just technology
Most leadership teams can see what AI could do for them, but making it work across the whole company is the hard part. That's because it's an org design and change problem as much as a technology one. As people and AI take on more of the work together, that means rethinking structure, governance and how decisions get made.
What it takes to get there
Principles to decide by
There's more uncertainty than ever, and you're deciding on emerging technologies with no precedent.
First-principles thinking helps you answer the big questions: where to invest, what changes in your operating model, and what your AI strategy should focus on (and leave out).
Systems designed for people and AI
The org systems that help people create value, including workflow design, org structure and team topologies.
And the tech systems underneath that power your operating model, including data architecture, AI systems, and agent platforms.
We design them with you, until they're working and delivering value.
Practices your teams create
New ways of doing things, with people and AI agents at the same table.
We co-create them with your teams as they do the work, rather than handing down a playbook.
Questions leaders ask
Something we haven't covered? Ask us directly.
- What is Agentic Operations?
- Agentic Operations is the work of redesigning how a company runs so people and AI can do the work together, with the controls directors and leadership teams need to meet their obligations. AI here means more than agents: the workflows, skills and tools that take on part of the work. It's an org design and change problem as much as a technology one, reaching who owns which decisions, how work moves, and how value is created.
- Is Agentic Operations an IT operations term?
- Not as we use it. In IT, agentic operations usually means AI agents running technology infrastructure, such as monitoring and fixing the cloud systems a critical application runs on: the next step on from AIOps. Humble Ventures uses Agentic Operations for the whole business: how a company runs when people and AI share the work.
- Is this about helping people use tools like ChatGPT?
- Partly, but that's not the focus. People using AI assistants to write, research or summarise is useful, and most companies already have it. Agentic Operations is about the work the company does together: AI built into workflows, decisions and how value gets created, across teams rather than one person at a time.
- What does safe or responsible AI mean in Agentic Operations?
- Systems and controls that let directors and leadership teams meet their responsibilities as AI changes how the company works: compliance with law and regulation such as privacy and security, and their fiduciary duties. Those responsibilities don't change. How the company operates does. Agentic Operations covers both sides: the technology systems and controls that make AI safe to use, and the redesign of how work happens, from idea to outcome.
- How does Agentic Operations relate to strategy and the operating model?
- The fundamentals of strategy and operations don't change. An operating model defines responsibilities, governance and expectations: who's involved, and what it takes to move work through the company and create value in line with its purpose and strategy. Agentic Operations adds what it takes to run that with AI in the work: observability, controls, and governance for agentic workflows. It also strengthens human judgement, for example by bringing the right business intelligence to decision makers continuously, so decisions and outcomes get better.

- Who is Agentic Operations for?
- Leadership teams and directors who are responsible for company performance and accountable for meeting its obligations, and who recognise that operating well in future takes different systems, tools and technology, now that AI is changing what it means to run a company. They need AI to deliver real value, with the controls to stay compliant and accountable. We work with enterprise leaders, owner-operators of smaller firms, and the boards and investors who oversee them.
- Do we need to be using AI agents already?
- No. Many companies aren't running agents yet. The work starts with how decisions get made and how work moves, which matters whether AI is a chat assistant today or an agent doing the work tomorrow.
- Is Agentic Operations about cutting headcount?
- It doesn't have to be. We help you find where AI adds real value in your business and measure it honestly. Whether that shows up as cost, speed, quality, capacity, or value creation is a decision for your leadership team.
- Where do we start?
- Where AI can deliver the most value against your goals. That might be automating low-value work, augmenting high-value work, or getting better information to people so productivity and quality go up. Whatever the focus, we start with one value case and run a small pilot with a team of your people supported by ours, co-creating the change in a way that fits your culture. The pilot proves the value, and what we learn from doing it shapes what comes next.
- How long before we see results?
- Weeks, for the first pilot. Spreading it across the company takes longer, and how fast depends on the conditions for success your leadership team creates: how many areas of value you take on, how much value each one creates, how well the learning is shared, and how strongly leaders sponsor and support the work.
